Metaverse and generative artificial intelligence in educational settings

How Metaverse and generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools can be used to enhance student engagement

Background

TLS3075 Digital Game and Learning in Educational Settings

Design target: To create immersive and collaborative learning experiences by using cutting-edge technologies, such as Metaverse and generative AI tools

👩‍🏫  Hybrid

ANALYSIS

Intended learning outcomes:

  1. To identify immersive tools that can enhance teaching and learning engagement

  2. To experience advanced EdTech tools such as the metaverse, and generative AI tools

Challenges/Needs:

Technology - Most students will need time to become familiar with EdTech tools; immersive virtual learning experiences require two things to work smoothly: reliable facilities and a stable Wi-Fi network connection.

Pedagogy - Students may find it challenging to quickly understand all the technical features of EdTech tools. As such, students will need more than verbal explanations help them understand how to design learning activities.

Space - Spaces without flexible facilities, such as moveable chairs and desks, interactive screens etc., fail to engage students.

EVALUATION

Instructor’s reflective comments:

Students are stimulated to consider how such cutting- edge technological tools can be used in their future teaching. Digital games certainly make lessons more interesting. Students are more proactive in learning and are motivated to explore more possibilities when they use these kinds of digital tools.
