ANALYSIS
Intended learning outcomes:
-
To identify the major theories and models that underpin infant and toddler programmes according to the local licensing requirements
-
To apply the principles of a quality education and care programme to evaluate, and make recommendations to local childcare settings and curriculums
Challenges/Needs:
Technology -
-
It is difficult for instructors and students to share and collaborate using just a prined version of the Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale Third Version (ITERS-3).
-
Stduents find it difficult to carry physical copies of the ITERS-3 manual and to evaluate different categories of childcare settings during crèche visits.
Pedagogy -
-
Instructors find it difficult to customise or adapt the scale to specific learning objectives, or student needs, with the printed version of the ITERS-3.
-
It is difficult for students to discuss and engage in interactive learning with the printed version of ITERS-3.
Space -
-
It is inconvenient for students to bring physical copies of the ITERS-3 during visits and inaccessible to refer to specific pages in an effective manner when evaluating different categories of childcare settings.
CO-DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT
Our solution:
-
Establishing an online survey inventory of ITERS-3. This streamlines the evaluation process, allows for easy customisation and collaboration, and reduces the potential for human error in scoring.

EVALUATION
Instructor’s reflective comments:
ITERs-3 facilitates the evaluation process by providing a comprehensive framework to assess various aspects of programmes for infants and toddlers. The tool is user-friendly, adaptable, and helps identify areas for improvement in different childcare settings.
